Albuquerque Garden North Valley

This pergola was selected for fragrant climbing roses to cover the pillars and roof. Drought tolerant shade trees planted on west side of property to assist in afternoon shade. Rafters are set at 45 degree angles to maximize shade in 6×8′ sitting area. We installed a steel panel of cornstalks behind the structure to add shade from the setting sun. This was originally a rectangular lawn. We cut it into a ribbon shape to mimic a path and planted decorative grasses on either side. Client wanted to keep some lawn for her dogs to play on. The planters were nothing but dirt and gravel to begin with.
We had to pull out soil, waterproof wall of house and refill.
